The president of the International Olympic Committee has declared 2010 Winter Olympic Games officially closed.
The president of the International Olympic Committee has declared 2010 Winter Olympic Games officially closed, in a ceremony marked by extinguishing Vancouver's iconic waterfront cauldron.

A crowd of more than 60-thousand attended the closing ceremony, which was a spectcular ceremony filled with partying and even a rock concert.

There was a traditional handover ceremony as well, during which the Olympic flag was lowered and presented to the Russian city of Sochi -- the host city for the next Winter Games in 2014.

 Matt Fischer, member of the audience for the closing ceremony says;
"I thought it was phenomenal, I thought it was amazing. It was truly Canadian, I thought it had simple parts like true Canadians talking about what it means to be Canadian, and some really cool pieces with snowboarding. I think the artistic direction was phenomenal."

Jay Machbaur, member of the audience for the closing ceremony says;
"I really enjoyed the changing of the Olympic flag, watching it go from one nation to another is pretty special."

Many in the crowd were Canadians, still excited after an overtime victory by their men's hockey team.

That win gave Canada a Winter Olympics record of 14 gold medals.

The games closed with a bang as a firework display illuminated the Vancouver night sky.
