Firefighters ifinally gained control of a wildfire with flames rising up to 60 feet high in an area near a small Western Australian mining community.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia lifted an emergency warning issued on Monday night that had urged residents to flee the blaze, burning near Eneabba, 170 miles  north of Perth.

Nearly 50 firefighters brought the blaze under control on Tuesday, but authorities warned hot weather and changing wind conditions could cause flare-ups and forecasters predicted temperatures could rise to 106 degrees.

The fire, which began on Saturday, has consumed 76,600 acres  of land in the sparsely populated area.

Elsewhere in Australia, hundreds of people were evacuated from an outback town as floodwaters surged through rural areas of Queensland.

The town of Charleville, around 466 miles  west of the state capital Brisbane, was declared a disaster zone after the river broke its banks, sending waves of water through streets. Some 300 took shelter in the town's showgrounds to escape the floods.
